Invitational Cup - points and group stage placements

Thanks to those teams who completed their final matches over the weekend and for everyone's patience as we've adapted the schedule to get more games played.  We're pleased to be able to announce the group stage placements and schedule for the next round of Cup matches.

​

Congratulations to everyone for some hard fought games.  As a reminder, teams receive 5 points for a win, 3 for a draw and 1 point for a loss where they achieved at least half of the score of the opposing team.  Where points are equal, goal difference is used to differentiate.

Championship points and 7th-9th playoff matches

The following is the schedule of the next two rounds of matches.  Every team who placed 1st in the group will play both of the 2nd placed teams they have yet to play, while every team who placed 2nd will play both top the 2nd placed teams they have yet to play.  The points scored from these matches will dictate final seeds from 1 - 6, which will be used to organise a 1st/2nd match, and 3rd/4th match and a 5th/6th match.  Teams who placed 3rd in their group will now play a round-robin competition, with points in the round-robin dictating placement from 7th to 9th.

Please get in touch with the opposing team to schedule time and location for the matches. Apologies that some teams have two home matches and some have two away matches for the next two rounds - this is because we prioritised the teams in groups A and C as home teams for match day 4 (to allow a longer time for pitch bookings for the completed groups).

The following is the plan for the final round matches, which includes the final 7th/9th playoff match.

We've realised the use of the backup date means there's only a week between match day 5 and the final match day, which may cause some issues with pitch bookings (apologies - missed this when organising and trying to fit around other lacrosse events!). Please let us know in advance if your pitch arrangements mean that a short notice booking would be a problem for your team - we may be able to facilitate neutral facilities if this is likely to cause issues. We're also aware that some venues won't be marked for lacrosse by early May, so keep us updated if this is the case and we can renegotiate home/away designations and explore the use of neutral facilities.

The Indoor Tournament will now take place on SUNDAY, 2 FEBRUARY (not 12 January as originally planned).  Further details to come.

Invitational Cup Placement rules

The teams who place first or second in their group will progress to the championship points stage. 
Teams who place third in their group will enter the 7th to 9th bracket for a round robin placement competition. Placement will be achieved by points scored during the round robin (ie the team who wins both matches will place 7th, the team who wins 1 match will place 8th and the team who wins no matches comes 9th). Goal difference will be used for final placement if necessary.

The Championship points stage starts with a points based competition. The teams who placed first in their group will play both teams who placed second in the other groups. Teams will be ranked 1 to 6 based on points scored during this stage, with goal difference being utilised where teams score the same.
The teams who place 1st and 2nd in the points round will progress to the final, the teams who place 3rd and 4th will play a 3rd/4th playoff, and the teams who place 5th and 6th will play a 5th/6th playoff.
